‘Sir Ellis Clarke’ bandit back in court
The two teenagers accused of robbing former President Sir Ellis Clarke had their matters adjourned yesterday in their second court appearance. Appearing before Magistrate Avason Quinlan yesterday was 19-year-old Donatus Glasgow and 16-year-old Ray Paul Julien. The accused were represented by attorneys Keith Scotland and Patrick Godson-Phillips respectively. On the last occasion, Glasgow pleaded guilty to all four robbery charges, which also included robbery with aggravation. On that occasion, the magistrate remanded Glasgow, who was due to be sentenced today pending a probation officer’s report. Quinlan had ordered that the mother of the accused meet with the probation officer and bring back a copy of the report to the court at his next appearance. When the matter was called yesterday, the magistrate, in referring to a letter from probation officer Shevonne Bruno-Pierre, said the latter stated that the officer was experiencing some difficulty in contacting the accused’s parents.
In response, after consulting Glasgow’s parents, attorney Keith Scotland told the magistrate that was not the case, as the mother of the accused said she did in fact visit the probation officer. No mention was made of the date the visit was made or what had transpired during the visit. Turning her attention to the younger of the two accused, Ray Paul Julien, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, his attorney Godson-Phillips told the court there was a problem in relocating Julien. Both accused are from Dibe Road, Long Circular Road in St James. The two are accused of robbing Sir Ellis and his chauffeur, Keith Bastaldo, on September 25 at Pine Grove Villas, Golf Course Road in Maraval. Roger Ray Lewis, a security guard stationed at the gated community and Sonya Raffoul, another resident, were also robbed in the same incident. The matters were adjourned to November 10.
