West End police seize $.25M ganja

Bundles of marijuana with a street value of more than a quarter million dollars were seized during a search of a Bagatelle, Diego Martin house early yesterday and a  34-year-old man arrested. Police believe the marijuana was prepared for export and with the arrest of the man, believe they may be able to solve a major drug-smuggling ring in the Bagatelle area. According to reports, WPC Walters and PC John were on mobile patrol at Savannah Terrace in Bagatelle around 4 am yesterday when they saw a man acting suspiciously. The man was stopped and searched and a Maverick pump-action gun loaded with five-gauge cartridges was allegedly found in his possession. He was also allegedly found with five rocks of cocaine and 1.2 grammes of marijuana.


The man was taken to the West End Police Station where he was questioned and a warrant was obtained to search his house. A party of officers led by acting Insp Nandram Moonilal and including Sgt Duncan, Cpl Narine and WPC Walters went to Bagatelle, to execute the search warrant. Officers allegedly seized 81.34 kilogrammes of marijuana wrapped in 13 specially designed bags. A female officer was  injured from a fall sustained on her way to the house. Head of the Western Division, Snr Supt Nevin Wilson, was high in praise of his officers for the arrest and the seizures.
