Murder inquiry begins in record time
A 27-year-old Laventille man yesterday had his murder inquiry start less than a month after being charged with the offence. Sheldon “Crock” Scott of John John, Laventille was before Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls yesterday, when the inquiry into the murder of Ricardo Leonze began. Testifying in the matter yesterday was mother of the deceased, Emlyn Sandy, of Barataria. Leonze, also known as Kurt Sandy, was killed three years ago. The Picton Road Laventille resident was shot several times and killed on September 23, 2001.
Sandy, 28, who lived in Barataria, was shot by his assailant moments after being discharged from the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he had been treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. Reports were that on the day in question, at about 12.30 pm, Sandy was walking along a narrow track in Picton, when he was shot in the back. He was then shot several more times about his body and died on the spot. Following investigations, Scott was held last September 22 and charged for the offence by Cpl Dennis of the Besson Street CID. Hearing continues on November 5.
