Woman loses finger in cutlass attack

A 35-year-old woman who was severely chopped about her body remains warded in a serious condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. Vasti Ramkissoon, of Santa Clara Road Extension, Preysal, received chops to her head, neck, right cheek, back and hand. One of her fingers was completely severed. Police are searching for a 38-year-old relative of the district, who has since gone into hiding.

The fracas took place around 10.15 yesterday morning while Ramkissoon was at a bar in the area  with two relatives. Police said a relative accused Ramkissoon of reporting to the police he was selling drugs and an argument ensued. The relative stormed out of the bar and returned a short while later with a “chinese chopper”. The man attacked Ramkissoon chopping her about her body before he fled the scene, leaving the bleeding woman on the floor. Couva Police were summoned and an EHS ambulance rushed the semi-conscious woman to the hospital where she was treated and admitted to Ward 3 in a serious condition. PC Radikissoon is continuing investigations.
