Victim’s husband testifies in inquiry
Two more witnesses testified yesterday at the resumption of the preliminary inquiry into the death of two people killed in a vehicular accident on Christmas day last year. On trial is university student Miles O’Connor, of Greenview Gardens, Saddle Road, Santa Cruz, and also of Hertforshire, England, who is charged with dangerous driving and causing the deaths of Venezuelan Jose Alexis Gonzales Berbesi and Dhanmatie Harrilal.
Both were killed in the December 25 smash-up at the intersection of the Priority Bus Route and the Churchill Roosevelt Highway Extension. Testifying yesterday was 64-year-old Felix Garcia, a close friend of the deceased Venezue-lan, and Kishore Harrilal, husband of Dhanmatie. The matter is being heard before Magistrate Gillian David in the Port-of-Spain Seventh Court. Karl Hudson-Phillips SC is representing the accused, while attorney Theodore Guerra is representing the interest of the Venezuelan family. The matter will continue on Thursday.
