Teacher raped in Barrackpore

POLICE are searching for two men who raped a school teacher in Bar-rackpore on Thursday night. A police report stated that around 7 pm, the teacher was standing at the corner of Penitence Street and Harris Prom-enade in San Fernando, awaiting transportation to Penal, when a Nissan Frontier pick-up pulled alongside her. The driver shouted “Penal! Penal!” Another man was in the vehicle as well, police said. The schoolteacher and a male commuter awaiting transportation entered the vehicle. On their way to Penal, the male passenger drop-ped out, police said.

The driver of the pick-up took another road and headed in the direction of Barrackpore. Police said the men took the school teacher to a lonely part of Wilson Road in Barrackpore, where they took turns raping her in the pick-up. Police said when they were finished, they put the woman out of the van. A passerby saw her standing on the road in tears and took her to the Barrackpore Police Sta-tion, where she reported the incident. She was medically examined by a District Medical Officer who confirmed she had been sexually assaulted. Investiga-tions are continuing.
