Trini gang member arrested in US
A Trinidad and Tobago national was among 45 alleged gang members rounded up by immigration officials in San Diego County, San Francisco, United States last weekend. The TT national was one of two persons charged with re-entering the United States after deportation. Federal agents arrested the 45 alleged gang members on immigration charges in a five-week crackdown in north San Diego County, the Homeland security department said Monday.
The suspects, who are linked to the prison-based “Mexican Mafia,” allegedly committed crimes ranging from kidnapping to carjacking. The Trinidadian was suspected to have been involved in drug trafficking, running from the Mexican border. One 27-year-old Mexican was convicted three times for burglary and for receiving stolen property and distributing narcotics, authorities said. Some suspects were previously deported and re-entered the country illegally.
