Crying baby found in Barataria

A baby boy believed to be one day old, dressed in a vest, diaper and wrapped in a blanket was found in bushes in a yard at 10th Avenue, Barataria on Saturday night. The umbilical cord was crudely cut. Reports revealed that around 7.30 pm on Saturday, a passer-by was alerted to the sound of a crying baby in the yard.

On checking, he discovered the baby wrapped in a blanket. Officers of the Barataria Police Station were alerted and the baby was taken to the Paediatric Section of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. Checks yesterday revealed that the baby was in good health. Police officers told Newsday that a search was being carried out for the mother of the child.
