Rape suspect still critical
THE RAPE suspect who was found hanging in a cell at the Barrackpore Police Station following an apparent suicide attempt, remains warded in serious condition at San Fernando General Hospital. The 26-year-old man’s condition has not improved and doctors are not certain when he will be discharged. However, when he is released, he will be taken to court for the alleged rape of a 21-year-old school teacher and attempting to commit suicide. The suspect and another man were arrested on November 5, the day after the woman was abducted and raped. Around 2 pm, two Sundays ago, police found the suspect hanging from a black electrical cord which was secured on the bars at the top of the cell. The officers immediately cut down the unconscious man and rushed him to hospital where he was treated and admitted to Ward 3, under police guard.
