‘We want answers’

THE COUSINS of last Tuesday’s accident victim Grenada-born Kathyann Strachan are demanding answers to her death. “We are getting several explanations but are not sure which is the right one. All we want is the truth,” said Arnold Strachan who arrived in TT on Wednesday following the death of his cousin. “Kathyann was a constructive, jovial person who had left Grenada four years ago to change her life. Since coming to TT she has made that change, having worked from day one as a domestic saving to make her life better.

“She knew that area well, having crossed that road every day she worked. So to hear what happened was a shock.” Kathyann, 27, a mother of one, died immediately on Tuesday around 3.20 pm when she was knocked down by a car which threw her body 150 feet away as she crossed the Western Main Road, opposite the Regents Tower, Westmoorings. The Grenada-born woman, a domestic worker who worked at several homes located at Westmoorings by the Sea (even up until her death) was on her way to her #10 Martin Trace, El Socorro home when the accident happened. “At the time she was working on saving her money to move out the apartment where she was staying and to visit her son in the USA. She had already collected the money and expected to do both within the next few weeks, now that will not be,” added another cousin Wilkinson Alexander who also came from Grenada to Trinidad on Wednesday to get answers about his cousin’s death.

“My cousin was a clean person who loved life and should not have died in that way. We do not want any revenge just answers. We need answers.” When contacted, Lamy Ferdinand aka ‘‘Jerry,’’ the Trinidadian father of the dead woman, said he has been in constant contact with the police and is awaiting the outcome of their investigation. “All I can say is what I have heard so far — she was crossing the road, saw two cars coming fast, attempted to run back and was killed.” Police in the meantime said they are unable to make a comment until the outcome of their investigations. The body of Kathyann is currently housed at the Simpson’s Funeral Home, Laventille for transfer to Grenada over the weekend. She is expected to be buried Tuesday. Constable Charles of the Four Roads Police Station is investigating.
