Embassy guard in court for coke

ROBERT WEAVER, 32, a guard attached to the United States Embassy on Marli Street, Newtown, appeared in court yesterday charged with possession of $350,000 worth of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and attempting to export cocaine to the United Kingdom. Weaver, who lives at Belmont Circular Road, Belmont, appeared before Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Magistrates’ Court charged with being in possession of 740 grammes of cocaine at Piarco International Airport on November 22.

It is alleged that Weaver attempted to board BWIA flight 402 to Manchester, England, when he was arrested by an officer of the Organised Crime and Narcotics Unit (OCNU). It was further alleged that he swallowed a number of pellets of cocaine which were stacked in condoms. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he reportedly excreted 69 pellets. He was discharged on Thursday and charged by PC Riad Hosein of the OCNU. Weaver, who is employed with Group 4 Falck security company, was granted $50,000 bail when he appeared in court yesterday. The case was adjourned to December 2.
