Colombians, Venezuelan held in hotel raid

Six Colombians and one Venezuelean national were arrested during an exercise carried out on Saturday night at a hotel in Chase Village. The women ages 17 to 25, were later handed over to immigration officers. They are to be deported today. Reports revealed that a party of officers led by Snr Supt Mayers and Supt Milette, executed a search warrant at the hotel around midnight on Saturday.

A search was carried out and the women were detained. Their passports were checked and the women were found to be in the country illegally. Senior officers of Central Division told Newsday that the exercise was carried out because of numerous complaints by residents of Chase Village about illicit activities taking place at the hotel. They added that more raids would be carried out in a bid to deal with the situation. Last year, the hotel was raided and two guns seized. Several women were arrested. Also in Central, the Task Force carried out a road block at Longdenville and held three persons for possession of marijuana. Those arrested will appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today.
