New eye on crime in TT

CRIMINALS now have additional reason to fear now that the police have added Sky Watch, one of the world’s most advanced security systems, to their crime-fighting arsenal. The first of these “go-anywhere, anytime mobile crime surveillance units” has been deployed in the centre of Independence Square in Port-of-Spain. Up-A-Notch managing director David Smith said his company has been contracted by the Ministry of National Security to bring in three Sky Watch Units, each of which allows absolute ground level to second storey eye level elevation (approximately 24 feet in the air) within a matter of seconds. Smith said the unit can accommodate two police officers and has the ability to monitor activities in all directions.

Revealing that the unit has night vision and video-recording capabilities, Smith said officers in Sky Watch would be able to provide their superiors with videotapes of any criminal activities within a 24-hour period. He added that two other Sky Watch Units are expected to arrive in TT soon. Smith said this was his company’s first venture into a security initiative with the Government. Sky Watch is manufactured by an American company, New Heights Manufacturing Inc and is available in Classic, Eagle, Sentinel and Frontier Models. This unit is used worldwide by US military forces (especially the US Third Army in Kuwait and Iraq and by US Special Forces based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina); within the US itself for border security and at several correctional facilities.
