Doctors should be organ donors

THE EDITOR: It is the first time Trinidad is appealing for organ donors and it is good to see that the Health Minister has been the first to sign the register. Saving a life is a blessing and the minister must be complimented for his proposal to become a donor.

It has been noted that the poor people in India donate their organs to defray their debts. This is unfortunate. Prisoners, too, donate their organs before execution! I would like to suggest that all doctors who work in hospitals whether foreign or local should now be bold and brave to donate their organs. One must be cautious, however, in allowing this operation because for a simple operation on people doctors charge thousands of dollars!
