Fish thief electrocuted
NOT satisfied with the fish he stole from his neighbour, 19-year-old Rishi Bahadour went to another neighbour’s house to steal more. However the father of one was electrocuted when he tried to unscrew a lightbulb under the neighbour’s house at Morne Diable Village in Penal yesterday morning. The incident occurred shortly after 2 am at the home of fish vendor, Jordan Ramsubhag. Recalling the incident, Ramsubhag said he parked his van under his house. The tray of the van he said had a cooler packed with fish and shrimp.
Directly above the tray, he hooked an extension cord with a light bulb and went upstairs. Around 1.48 am, he said, he heard someone call his name at least four times but he did not respond. About five minutes later, Ramsubhag said he went downstairs and the place was in darkness and the extension cord was missing. When the vendor looked on the ground, he found Bahadour, dressed in a jockey shorts and jersey, lying face down. Ramsubhag said the young man was clutching the electrical cord in his hand. The vendor said Bahdour appeared to be dead so he called the police and informed his (Bahadour’s) parents.
On the tray of the van, Bahadour found several fishes, which did not belong to him. “Like the boy put the neighbour’s fish on my van and then went to take out the bulb,” he added. He said Bahadour usually stole items from residents and sold them. “I always missing fish but I never know who do it. He steal somebody Macaw the other day,” he added. Bahadour, his common-law-wife Sharon Samaroo and nine-month-old baby girl lived with his parents and seven siblings. His father, Vern, said he did not know why his son would want to steal his neighbours’ fish. “He was a fisherman I cannot say why he did it I was not there,” he added. Visiting the scene was a party of officers of the Penal Police Station headed by Snr Supt Felix Nimrod and Sgt Jimmy Palloo. Invetsigations are continuing.
