Schoolboy charged with murder
A 14-year-old Claxton Bay schoolboy was yesterday charged with the chopping death of Claxton Bay foreman Ashford Luckhee. Two other men, aged 18 and 23, were also charged with the murder. The three suspects were arrested at their respective homes on Monday by a party of police officers led by Supt Fitzroy Fredericks. Yesterday, Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson gave instructions to the Couva police to lay a charge of murder against the three. Luckhee was abducted from his Claxton Bay home two weeks ago and his car stolen.
His house was also ransacked and a quantity of cash and valuables stolen. His decomposed body was found in a canefield at the back of the Chaguanas Police Station, and was later identified by relatives. An autopsy revealed that Luckhee was chopped to death. His stolen car was recovered at Sum Sum Hill, Claxton Bay, shortly after his abduction, and after extensive investigations by WPC Johnson and PCs Persad and Atkinson, the three suspects were detained. They will appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today.
