Wanted man gunned down
ELIJAH Brown, 22, who was wanted by police for questioning in the Carnival Tuesday evening shooting of a man in Morvant, was shot and killed yesterday morning. He is murder victim number 44 for 2005. A passing policeman on a motorcycle was also shot. Brown was shot three times at the Morvant intersection, east of the Fernandez Distilleries compound. According to reports, Brown was on his way to work around 6.45 am, when he was approached from behind by a man hiding behind a tree at lower Lady Young Road, near the Morvant junction.
The man began firing at Brown, who was walking with three men. They began to run but the gunman followed and continued shooting at Brown, who collapsed. Cpl Lester Alfred of the traffic branch in Port-of-Spain was passing on his motor bike, when he was also shot in his right leg. Brown died on the spot while Cpl Alfred was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. up to press time, he was warded in a stable condition. Brown’s body bore three bullet wounds to chest, arm and hand. Police sources told Newsday the killing is a reprisal for a Carnival Tuesday shooting in Morvant. The sources said that a man who was shot in Morvant on Carnival Tuesday discharged himself from hospital on Monday and told friends he was going to “handle his stories.’’
