Duke Street family of four was murdered

Police have classified the deaths of four members of a Duke Street family, who perished when fire destroyed their home on February 6, as murder. Based on forensic evidence gathered from the scene of the  fire, the four deaths were classified as murder. This means that 48 persons have been murdered in 55 days of the year.

Yesterday, the file on the deaths of the four was sent to the head of the Homicide Bureau, Snr Supt Dyo Mohammed. The investigation is now being headed by detectives at the Besson Street Police Station. Investigators told Newsday they are yet to interview a key suspect in the four murders. Roland Inniss, 38, and his three children — Rennie, 9, Ronna, 6, and Raul, 4, perished when their home went up in flames around 2 am on February 6. Three men in Muslim garb were seen at the house with two kegs of gasoline.

Roland Inniss was returning home with his wife when he was told that his house was on fire. He tried in vain to save the three children, and perished in the blaze. The bodies of the three children were found beneath their beds. Mother of the children, Andrea Inniss, said the property had been at the centre of a court battle and, in August last year, a judge ruled in their favour, granting them the right to occupy the property until a final court decision. Yesterday, Andrea Inniss said she was satisfied that the police were doing a proper investigation into the deaths. She feels that the perpetrators of the evil act should be brought to justice.
