Cricket team mourn colleague’s death

AVID CRICKETER, role model and a loving and disciplined son — these were some of the words used yesterday to describe 20-year-old Industrial Gas Ltd (IGL) employee Shivam Harrylal at his funeral service at his Balmain Village, Couva home. Hundreds of mourners flocked to the house of mourning to bid a final goodbye to bottle filler, Harrylal, who died last Tuesday in an explosion at the IGL compound at Point Lisas. Also attending the funeral was Harrylal’s team members from the SIS Balmain Cricket Unified Club. Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the club’s president, Mishri Lutchmedial described Harrylal as a humble, honest, intelligent and brilliant cricketer.

Lutchmedial vowed to fulfil Harrylal’s vision to unify the cricket team and make his home town proud. While staring at Harrylal’s body in a white casket, Lutchmedial added: “I promise you to continue to strive and excel in the cricket field. We will play in your name and fulfil your dreams that Balmain will achieve.” Harrylal was also described as the live wire in his home. “He kept all of us active and happy,” a close relative added. The service was officiated by Pundit Jagdish Maraj. Following the service his body was taken to the Yakaran Cremation Site where the final rites were performed.
