Body found behind UWI sports club identified

The body discovered behind the UWI sports club early Saturday has been  identified as Ricardo De Silva, whose address remains unknown. He was identified by his uncle. Police investigators said that De Silva, 30, was a handyman and ran errands and did odd jobs for several burger vendors in the Curepe area. He was last seen alive on Friday night.

The District Medical Officer revealed that De Silva was beaten about the body, and his head bashed in with a blunt instrument. No motive has been established for the killing. An autopsy carried out today at the Forensic Science Centre will also determine whether De Silva was raped. A party of officers led by Cpl Thalia Francis and including Cpl Wendell Lucas carried out investigations yesterday and spoke with several vendors and relatives of the dead man. Investigations are continuing.
