Two killed in Wallerfield crash
A 43-year-old La Horquetta man and another passenger in a van died yesterday when the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a lightpole at Wallerfield. David Bruno, alias “Beef” of Toco, and Donavan Hector, 43, of Malabar, Arima, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. Bruno died on the spot while Hector died at the Arima Hospital late yesterday. Reports said that around 4.50 am, Wayne Ferguson of Tunapuna was driving his green Nissan patrol vehicle west along Wallerfield Road, when on reaching Ing’s Poultry Farm, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an electricity pole on the northern side of the road.
Bruno who was seated in the rear seat died instantly. EHS and fire officers were summoned to the scene and assisted in removing the body of Bruno from the mangled wreck of the van. Hector was rushed to the Arima Hospital, where he later died. The body was viewed by District Medical Officer Dr Vinod Mahabir who ordered its removal to the Forensic Science Centre. A party of officers led by Cpls Gomez, Alexis and PCs Thomas, and Henry visited the scene. Relatives of Bruno were too distraught to be interviewed yesterday. The deaths of Bruno and Hector bring to 23, the number of persons killed in road deaths for the year so far. Residents of Toco said yesterday that Bruno was a quiet, reserved person and his death came as a shock to them.
