Landslide victim to be buried today
In anticipation of a large turnout, the funeral service for landslide victim Shirley Nimblett-Ferguson will be held at 2 pm today at the Delaford Community Centre. She will later be buried at the Delaford Public Cemetery. Last Wednesday, Shirley succumbed to injuries sustained during the landslides last November, that claimed the life of her 16-year-old daughter Kathy-Ann, as well as 30-year-old Keston Mc Millan. It was decided that the Delaford Streams of Power Pentecostal Church, of which she was a member, would have been too small to accommodate the anticipated large turnout and that the spacious centre would be more convenient.
The THA will cover the funeral expenses. The 43-year-old mother and her five children were buried under a landslide in the November 12 rainstorm that ravaged East Tobago. Her daughter, Kathy-Ann, 16, died instantly while Shirley and eight-year-old Kwasi-Ann were flown to Trinidad. Kwasi-Ann left the Mt Hope Children’s Hospital and returned to Tobago on Thursday, where she was reunited with the rest of her family. The spirited youngster told Newsday that although she would not be returning to school fully, she was anticipating visiting her schoolmates and teachers at the Delaford Anglican School.
