Woman on 46 fraud charges
A 25-YEAR-OLD Princes Town woman was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $450,000, when she appeared before a Princes Town magistrate charged with 46 counts of fraud. Ramola Sankar of St Croix Road, Princes Town appeared before senior Magistrate Jai Narine accused of fraudulently taking $400,000 from her employer over a three-year period.
Sankar was arrested last week by Fraud Squad officers and slapped with 23 charges of making false entries in a cash book and 23 charges of stealing money. The charges alleged that she committed the crimes between December 14, 2001 and March 24, 2003, while employed as a clerk at SNSR Food Centre on High Street, Princes Town. Sankar pleaded not guilty to all the charges which were laid by WPC Karen Lancaster-Ellis of the San Fernando bureau of the Fraud Squad. Attorney Chateram Sinanan was defence counsel for the accused while ag Sgt Zamsheed Mohammed was the court prosecutor. Magistrate Narine postponed the case to June 2.
