No bail for man in jail shooting

A 32-year-old man was yesterday denied bail by a Port-of-Spain magistrate when he appeared on charges of possession of arms and ammunition and common assault. Carlos Campos of St Ann’s was before magistrate David Harris in the Port-of-Spain Fifth court charged by Insp Christopher Abraham of the Port-of-Spain CID, with possession of a 7.6 mm pistol and eight rounds of ammunition. The court heard that on Monday, Campos was held near Phillips Street in Port-of-Spain with a pistol and ammunition.

He was also charged for assaulting PCs Roland Mc Farlane, Ulric Neptune and Sean Phillip at the corner of Pembroke and New Streets, Port-of-Spain. All charges were laid indictably. Police prosecutor Cpl Samuel objected to bail for Campos,  indicating to Harris that the accused was part of an ongoing inquiry into a homicide. There was also no tracing done on Campos to determine whether he had any previous charges, convictions or pending matters. Campos, who said nothing in response to the objection raised by the prosecutor, was remanded in to custody. He will re-appear in court on March 10.
