Vet clinic re-opens with caution
LESS than one day after his release, the Jones’ Animal Clinic, on La Seiva Road, Maraval, where kidnap victim Dr Azizul Rahaman worked was re-opened for business, but this time under strict security measures. On arrival at 11 am, Newsday was told the business opened around 8 am and closed at 10.30 am, instead of the usual midday. Neighbours said while the doctor was present there was a lot of screening on who was entering the compound and who was allowed to see the vet.
Several clients and potential clients arrived with their sick pets but had to turn back when they found the gates locked. All they were told the offices were opening as normal, but they were not shocked at the measures adopted under the circumstances. Veterinarian Dr Rahaman who was kidnapped by two men with a dog posing as clients last Tuesday morning at his workplace was released on Friday night at the Lady Young Road lookout. Police could not say if a ransom was demanded, or if any was paid. Meantime, there have been no word from the abductors of two other kidnap victims — Glencoe housewife Tamen Abraham and Valsayn south resident Robin Ramadhar.
Abraham was kidnapped on Thursday morning while walking around the Windsurf Road Circular at Westmoorings by the Sea, while the Chaguanas businessman was kidnapped Friday night while liming with friends at an Aranjuez restaurant and bar. When Newsday visited both victims’ families sources said they are waiting and praying.
