Kidnappers demand $2M for Charlieville teen
KIDNAPPERS are demanding $2 million for the release of Charlieville teenager Nadine Harrypersad. Harrypersad, 16, was kidnapped a short distance from her father’s Charlieville spare parts and auto business place, Shastri’s Auto Garage. According to reports, the Form V Chaguanas Senior Comprehensive school student left her father’s business place at Caroni Savannah Road in Charlieville around 8 am for school. At 10 am, her father Shastri Harrypersad received a call at his business place which informed him that his daughter was kidnapped and her abductor(s) wanted $2 million for her release. When Newsday visited the businessplace, the worried father would only say that he was waiting for the kidnappers to call back.
A close family member said that the kidnappers had called and demanded a huge ransom. “The father said he does not have that type of money.” He added that the victim’s father then heard Nadine’s voice on the phone. it was pulled away from her and the abductors hung up. When contacted late yesterday evening, Shastri told Newsday that up to press time they had not received any call from the abductors. Police sources told Newsday they are treating the kidnapping as serious and are working on information that has come to hand.
Officers of the Anti-Kidnaping Squad are investigating. In unrelated matters, police still have no clues into the whereabouts of kidnap victims Robin Ramadhar, Tamen Abraham and Chris Elves. Elves of Spring Village in Valsayn was kidnapped outside his home in February, while Tamen was kidnapped while exercising in Westmoorings. Ramadhar was kidnapped while liming in Aranjuez. When contacted, families of all three told Newsday they have had no communication with the kidnappers.
