Glencoe kidnap victim freed

Despite a denial from relatives of freed kidnap victim Tamen Abraham that a ransom was paid for her release, officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad confirmed that the release of Abraham came only after a small ransom was paid. Abraham, who was kidnapped last Friday while jogging with a friend in Westmoorings, was released around 4.15 am yesterday on Lady Young Road, Morvant. The dazed woman managed to alert a Morvant resident who took her to her Glencoe home. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were contacted and they interviewed Abraham, but she was unable to give a statement. She suffered slight bruises and scratches and appeared to be dehydrated.

The 60-year-old retiree remained indoors all of yesterday at her Glencoe home, being fed soup and liquids. A female relative told Newsday that the family was happy she was back home and thanked all those who prayed and lent support to the family. She said neighbours, friends and relatives were still in shock and fear over the kidnapping, and are now afraid to venture out of their homes, even for an early morning or afternoon walk. She feels the crime situation in the country has reached an alarming state and expressed concern for the safety of innocent citizens going about their day- to-day activities. Up until yesterday, nine people have been kidnapped for the year and three of the victims are still in the hands of abductors. They are Chris Elves, Robin Ramadhar and Nadine Harripersad.
