JCC set up to hear NWRHA problems

THE North-West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) has decided to set up a Joint Consultative Committee  (JCC) to deal with workers’ issues. The first meeting of this committee is scheduled to take place on Wednesday. This development was prompted by last Friday’s demonstration by workers from various health institutions under the NWRHA management, who literally ambushed Health Minister John Rahael moments after he completed a press conference at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope.

Newsday has learnt that the NWRHA executive invited workers’ representatives from the Public Services Association (PSA) to an impromptu meeting.  The meeting lasted almost two hours and focused on several human resource problems which caused the workers to protest. Corporate Communications Manager Charmaine Codrington told Newsday while workers in other RHAs were benefitting from allowances, workers in the NWRHA and North-Central RHA were not receiving payment. Human Resource Manager Peter Osborne advised the PSA team that he was aware of some of their issues and a HR document had been prepared. It will be forwarded to the HR committee of the Board of Directors for approval.
