Kidnapped teen escapes captors

For much of Yesterday both officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and parents of kidnapped schoolboy Nicholas Sebro denied that he had been released. However Newsday confirmed that Sebro, 16, had escaped from his captors in the Heights of Aripo, Arima. He had an emotional reunion with his family at the Arima Police Station.

According to reports, Sebro, who was gagged and tied, freed himself and trekked five miles out of the forest, where he met some villagers and told them of his ordeal. The principal of Aripo RC School, Osborne Wilcox, whom he (Sebro) knew, then agreed to take the traumatised teen to the Arima Police Station. After the reunion, Nicholas was taken to the Arima Health Facility where he was checked  and declared unharmed except for some bruises on his chest and wrists. He was then whisked away by AKS officers. The Tranquillity Government School student, was kidnapped while liming with friends a short distance away from his home last Saturday evening. The kidnappers later demanded $1 million for his release. Police sources told Newsday they were pursuing several clues and believe an arrest is imminent.
