Big Plans for Easter end in Tragedy
Big plans for Easter holiday by a family of Guaico Tamana Road, Sangre Grande, ended in tragedy as one of their sons died in a two-vehiclular head-on collision at Mausica Road on Saturday. The home where family members had gathered to go to a river lime turned into a mourning house. Vijay Subdhan died at the Mt Hope Hospital yesterday after doctors tried their best to save the life of the 26-year-old porter of Piarco International Airport. His friend Rodney Outar of Chaguanas, the other occupant of the vehicle is warded in a critical condition at the St Clair Medical Complex.
According to reports at around 2 pm on Saturday, Subdhan was driving along Mausica Road when he lost control while negotiating a corner and his vehicle came into contact with a truck TBE 1143 travelling in an easterly direction, both vehicles collided head on. Subdhan and his friend were pinned in the vehicle and fire officers had to use their torch to get both men out of the crashed vehicle. Subdhan received head and chest injuries and broken legs, his friend Outar sustained damage to his face, a broken jaw and other injuries. Both victims were rushed to the Mt Hope Hospital by an Emergency Health Services ambulance.
The driver of the truck Kalos Thorne of Chaguanas escaped unhurt. Nathalie Subdhan wife of the deceased said her husband went to work at 6 am on Saturday and returned home at 12 noon to do business and assist a friend whose car was giving problems. He wanted to ensure that the car was working well for the big lime over the Easter holiday. He then played with his 3-year-old child Vishal, had a glass of orange juice and told her, he would see her later at around 1.30 pm. When Nathalie received the shocking news from her sister-in-law by cellphone, she said she still could not believe the news.
His mother Polly Subdhan with tears in her eyes said her son called out to her saying “What you have to eat?” Her reply was “Wait ten minutes and you will get something to eat” But he told her he was busy and then when he returned he would eat. Showing the meal she prepared for her son, she began to cry, saying if he had only stayed back for the ten minutes he would have been alive. His family said he was very excited about the river lime and was busy doing all that he had to do so he could enjoy himself at the lime. Pc Bernard of the Arima police is continuing enquiries. A post mortem on the body of Subdhan is expected to be performed today at Mt Hope Hospital.
