A SANGRE Grande tailor drowned on Easter Monday while bathing with friends and relatives at Balandra Bay. According to reports, around 10.30 am on Monday, Vernyick Crooks, 27, left home in company with friends and relatives for an excursion to Balandra. Shocked friends told police that during the lime, Crooks had a great time and consumed alcoholic beverages. Around 5 pm, while he was bathing, Crooks reportedly got into difficulties and disappeared under the water.

A frantic search was carried out and 30 minutes later, his body was found floating at the mouth of the Balandra river with his feet entangled in mangrove roots. His body was found  a mile away from the area where he initially disappeared under the water. Constables’ Rojas and Hosein, both of Matura Police Station as well as DMO Dr Roxanne Tantoco visited the scene and the body was ordered removed to the Port-of-Spain Mortuary where an autopsy was  carried out yesterday. Patricia Crooks, grieving mother of the deceased said her son was the sole breadwinner in the family.
