Cops stab each other
Two policemen got into a fierce argument on Tuesday night on Sackville Street, Port-of-Spain, and ended up drawing blood and suffering stab wounds. The incident took place in the vicinity of the Police Administration building. A police constable has since been detained for the stabbing of his colleague.
Reports revealed that around 7 pm, a constable attached to a police section in Port-of-Spain was liming with other police officers at Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, when he was approached by another constable who asked to speak with him. The two men, who allegedly shared a close relationship for the past two years walked to Sackville Street, where they reportedly got into a heated argument.
The constable from the police section reportedly whipped out a knife and stabbed his colleague once in the chest. The injured constable retaliated by breaking a bottle which he used to stab his colleague. After the dust settled, the two officers were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they were treated for stab wounds. One constable was warded while the other was detained at the Central Police Station. Up until yesterday, the constable was still being detained.
Police Commissioner Trevor Paul said yesterday that he was aware of the incident and that the matter is under investigation. He also gave assurance that the incident will be thoroughly investigated and the necessary action taken. When Newsday visited Ward 12 of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, the injured constable was nursing wounds to the face and head. He also had a fractured arm, cuts and bruises on the hands but declined comment on the matter.
