Dad of three gunned down in Morvant
A 33-year-old Morvant father of three was shot dead at Mon Repos, Morvant, around 11 pm on Wednesday night. He is the 82nd person to be murdered for the year. Police reports revealed that Errol Haddaway, 34, was seen liming with a group of men, and at about 10.30 pm, officers of the Morvant Police Station received a call concerning a body lying at the side of the road in Morvant. Supt Reed, Insp Dave Hillaire and District Medical Officer Dr Bochay went to the scene, and the body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.
An autopsy yesterday revealed that Haddaway died from shock and haemorrhage consistent with a gunshot wound at the back of the head. Police investigators told Newsday that Haddaway had matters pending in court for firearm and narcotic offences. The police also had several warrants for Haddaway’s arrest. At Chaconia Avenue in Morvant yesterday, Barbara Haddaway, the victim’s mother, said although her son lived in Mon Repos, he was good to people in the Morvant area.
She said her son was fondly called “Dookie” by those who knew him and he was a favourite with schoolchildren, because he was always willing to give to those in need. Haddaway was also described as a talented person who often painted homes for a living. Police investigators believe his killing was related to a recent altercation he had with a group of men from the area. Investigations are continuing.
