$3M demanded for Bachan’s release
A $3 MILLION ransom has been demanded for the safe release of kidnapped Central businessman Brian Bachan, who was grabbed on Wednes-day night at his home. An uncle of the victim told Newsday yesterday that one of the kidnappers contacted Bachan’s father Chunilal Bachan, around 7 pm on Thursday night and demanded $2 million. The uncle told Newsday that two hours later, Chunilal, who lives at the family’s businessplace — B and B Heavy Equipment at Orange Field Road, Carapichai-ma, received another call in which the person demanded $1 million more.
Bachan, who runs the business, was grabbed by five armed men about 9.30 pm at his Thompson Road, Palmiste, Long-denville home, while his family was entertaining guests. The couple has two children — aged five and six. Newsday was told Chunilal pleaded with the kidnappers to release his son, as he is diabetic, suffers from high blood pressure and in need of medication.
The kidnappers did not give Chunilal any time-frame for raising the money. The uncle said the caller did not allow Chunilal to speak to his son. Yesterday, the victim’s wife Camani was too distraught to speak when Newsday contacted her. In a plea for the kidnappers to release Bachan, the uncle who did not want to be identified, begged: “Please whoever you may be, let Brian go. He has not done anything to deserve this kind of treatment. “He is very sick and in need of medication. Please, find it in your heart to free him.” Police officers of the Anti Kidnapping Squad and the Chaguanas Police Station are continuing investigations.
