Soldier commits suicide in front of girlfriend

A 25-YEAR-OLD soldier from South Trinidad died after ingesting a poisonous substance following an argument with his girlfriend on Thursday night. David Parasram, 25, drank from a bottle containing the deadly herbicide Larnate in front of his girlfriend after an argument. Parasram of Happy Hill, Rousillac, was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force for the past five years. According to police, around 7.30 pm, he walked to the woman’s house, a short distance from where he lived, and an argument  ensued.

According to the report, Parasram took out the bottle of Larnate as the argument continued and drank from it. Parasram walked back to his house where he collapsed near the front door. Neighbours who saw what took place ran to the soldier’s assistance and a call was made to the police. An EHS ambulance took Parasram to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died while receiving medical treatment. Police said Parasram was attached to a Special Unit at Camp Ogden. PC Anil Boodlal of Oropouche Police Station is investigating.
