Arouca man dies from house fire
A 31-year-old man, who was severely burnt about the body when fire destroyed his Bon Air Gardens home last Saturday, succumbed to his injuries around 1.30 pm on Thursday. Nigel Castellano, an employee of Agostini Ltd, was asleep in the house at Keskidee Crescent, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, when a fan caught fire. The flames soon spread to the rest of the house and Castellano, who was asleep, was trapped in the room when part of the burning roof fell on him.
He still managed to escape and was rushed to the Community Hospital in Cocorite, where he was treated and warded in serious condition. Doctors had des-cribed his condition as poor and said his chances of survival were slim. Castellano’s relative Jenny Santana yesterday told Newsday the victim was a quiet, decent person who had a lot of plans for the future. Castellano will be buried today at the Tunapuna Cemetery after a funeral service at Allens Funeral Chapel, Tunapuna. Officers of the Tunapuna police are treating his death as accidental.
