Cops hit dead end
THE WHEREABOUTS of 16-year-old Radha Pixie Lakhan remained a mystery yesterday, even as thousands of the nation’s schoolchildren were preparing to return to school today. Lakhan, a pupil of Palo Seco Government Secondary School, was last seen walking on a lonely road which led to her Siparia home on Tuesday March 22. She never made it to her home. Despite searches by police, relatives, villagers and friends, no one found any clues to explain her disappearance. Despite several anonymous calls to the police by persons claiming to have seen her in various locations in South Trinidad, investigations have hit a dead end. "This one is baffling the police. Her parents described her as an angel. She has no criminal record, no boyfriend and is not in the habit of leaving home. We have used up all our resources, but we are still searching and hoping for the best," a police officer told Newsday. Meanwhile Lakhan’s worried parents, Surujdai and Rampersad, have been holding nightly prayer meetings for her safe return. School principal Fitzroy Geoffery told Newsday that since the incident he had been fasting and praying for the girl’s safety. He said word of Lakhan’s disappearance shocked members of the staff and pupils. Describing her as an intelligent young girl, he said Lakhan was due to write the CXC examinations next month, and he expected her to get full passes. UNC Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma, who had been instrumental in organising searches for the teenager, told Newsday that 450 persons and 100 cars had been involved in searches for Lakhan so far. Persons with information on the girl’s whereabouts are asked to contact the Siparia police or to send e-mails to missingradha@yahoo.com. Snr Supt Felix Nimrod and ASP Jemmot are heading investigations.
