Bankers consider suspending payments

THE Bankers’ Association of Trinidad and Tobago (BATT) yesterday said it would consider the temporary suspension of payments to current loans by persons affected by Saturday’s devastating fire in Port-of-Spain. In a statement, the BATT said the announcement was made by its president Larry Howai due to the fact that many of the damaged businesses are small and micro-businesses. The association said persons who suffered losses in the fire are asked to meet with their relevant bank managers without delay, “to discuss possible arrangements for such suspension of payments.” BATT said it was deeply concerned about the persons who suffered losses in the fire, and pledged its commitment to assist in the rebuilding and restoration process.
