Morvant labourer shot dead

THE murder toll in TT on Wednesday night jumped to 96 for the year with the killing of a Mon Repos Road, Morvant labourer. According to reports, around 9.30 pm on Wednesday, Peter Jack, 22, alias "Pablo Escobar" was standing on Mon Repos Road near his home when a car pulled up with three men. The driver of the car, who Jack knew, had a conversation with Jack.

During the conversation, the two other men approached Jack and a scramble ensued with one of the men. The other man took out a firearm and shot the labourer twice in his neck.

His sister rushed the bleeding man to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

When Newsday visited the Mon Repos home of the father of one, a trumatised relative said," If one ah dem eh dead, I will dead. One way or the other, somebody will pay for this death. Peter was never in any stupidness. He was never in their gangs or war.

According to an eyewitness report, Jack was standing outside the home of his "god-brother" at the corner of Clarence Circular and Mon Repos Road in Morvant, when a car with three men pulled up.

"One of the men, the driver, walked up to Jack and they had a conversation which became heated. Jack walked into the yard, where he was followed by the driver.

"Their heated conversation continued until the other two men got into it. Jack responded and told the driver to give the men whatever he had for them, and let them go their way because he (Jack) did not want this confusion in his god-brother’s place. One of the men then grabbed Jack, and they started fighting.

"The other man ran and stood over Jack, pulled off his friend, pulled out a gun and fired two shots, hitting Jack in his neck. Jack called out to his god-brother ‘Aki, Aki,’ but by the time the cutlass-wielding man ran outside, the car with the three men had sped off.

Jamilia Jack, aka Milky, who was standing nearby and who had accosted the man after he shot her brother, rushed the bleeding man to the PoSGH, where he succumbed to his injuries."

Police later recovered the abandoned "PH" taxi near the crime scene. An all-points bulletin has been issued for the arrest of the Morvant driver.

Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Bishop, ASP Cummings, acting ASP Trim, Insp Hilaire, Cpls McMillan and Vidalle who is continuing investigations.
