Carlos John in court

FORMER Government Minister Carlos John, was in the witness stand on Friday as the preliminary inquiry into the kidnapping of his brother, psychologist Ronald John, resumed at the Port-of-Spain Magistrate’s Court. John was led into evidence by State attorney Denise Badree. The matter, is being heard in the Port-of-Spain First Court by Magistrate Ejenny Espinet.


Five men are before the court charged with John’s kidnapping on March 26, 2003. They are Sheldon “Skelly” Lovell, Sean “Gumbo” Vincent, Richard “Chinee” Kirton, Brian Charles and Rondell Roberts. Attorney Ian Brooks, who is representing accused Rondell Roberts, was absent from Friday’s hearing. The court was told that he was involved in another matter at the High Court. A junior attorney who represented Brooks asked that the matter be adjourned and the witness return to court at a later date for cross examination by Brooks. Hearing will continue on April 19.
