Diego murder takes toll to 97
THE MURDER toll in Trinidad and Tobago moved closer to 100 yesterday with the murder of a Diego Martin man. David Noel Thomas, 28, alias “Blackish,” of School Drive, Diego Martin, was shot to death around 1.15 am yesterday. Thomas had just left the Princess Pub with a beer in his hand and was at the corner of Mercer Street and Diego Martin Main Road when several loud explosions were heard. Pub patrons ran to the front of the building where they saw three men running away and found Thomas lying dead in a pool of blood.
Police who visited the scene said the body had bullet wounds to the head and back. Thomas was shot three times. Thomas’ father, Paul, admitted that his son sometimes “got into mischief” but he said he could not understand why anyone would want to kill him. “Yes, he did one or two wrong things and got into problems but I do not think that is a reason to kill him. David never spoke about enemies or problems with anyone,” the grieving man said.
He said he often warned Thomas and his other children about being out late at nights and the dangers of the present times. Thomas was the father of one. “You can make the children but you can’t make their minds,” the elder Thomas said. He commended the police for the work they are doing to reduce crime and appealed to the Government to do more by way of resources and support to assist the police service. Cpl Marcelle of the Four Roads Police Station is continuing investigations.
