Accosta: No gas shortage in TT
NATIONAL PETROLEUM Marketing Company Ltd (NPMC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gerard Accosta yesterday dismissed rumours of a gas shortage in Trinidad and Tobago. Those rumours were fuelled by reports of long lines of trucks laden with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders parked outside of the company’s offices in Sea Lots. Accosta told Newsday the trucks were parked outside the company’s compound due to a meeting between gas distributors and NPMC which was going on at the time.
He said the distributors were concerned about problems at NP’s new LPG filling plant at Sea Lots, and they were given the assurance that those problems would be addressed. The plant was commissioned last year. Gas distributors told Newsday that the turnaround time at the plant and a shortage of 20lb gas cylinders were some of the main problems affecting their businesses. They said they were comforted by Accosta’s assurances that their concerns would be addressed.
