$4M bridge for Aranjuez
After having survived flooding and traffic problems for the past 40 years, residents of Aranjuez and surrounding districts expressed their happiness yesterday at the launch of construction work for the new $4 million Aranjuez Bridge. Bissoon Birsingh of the Aranjuez Village Council yesterday listed the litany of woes suffered by the residents, mainly farmers, on not having a proper bridge. He also came up with other suggestions which found favour with Works and Transport Minister, Franklin Khan, who attended the ceremony. Among Birsingh’s proposals was the linking of the Johnny King Road to the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway. Also, with the new bridge being built, there was the urgent need for police protection in the area, as well as the re-paving of Coronation Street, Bridge Road and Estate Road, and sidewalks, especially for the school children. At yesterday’s launch, heavy equipment and workers were already on site in preparation for the building of the new Aranjuez bridge. The Ministry of Works and Transport hosted the ceremony marking the start of construction yesterday, at the British American Cricket ground in the Aranjuez Savannah, San Juan.
