Dad admits to incest with 2 daughters

JUSTICE DEVAN Rampersad will decide next week Wednesday on the fate of a Rio Claro father who yesterday pleaded guilty in the San Fernando High Court to having sex with his two teenaged daughters. Before he passes sentence on the 43-year-old labourer, the judge wants to ascertain the paternity of one of the daughter’s children. The accused father pleaded guilty to four counts of committing incest on his daughters. After the guilty plea yesterday, State attorney Narissa Ramsundar told Rampersad that the man is already serving a 12-year jail sentence for incest he committed last year with one of his daughters.

Rampersad heard from Ramsundar that the man had sex with his 15-year-old daughter on February 28 and April 1, 2001; March 27, 2001; and between May 31 and July 1, 2001. The judge heard that the daughter gave birth, and that the daughter and her mother took care of the child. The State attorney told the judge that on one occasion, the father had sex with his daughter while she was changing her clothes to attend school. Rampersad then requested State attorney Ramsundar to ascertain the paternity of the child. Tests will be conducted to determine the identity of the child’s father.

The fourth count of incest, Rampersad heard, was committed on his 13-year-old daughter on June 12, 2001. The girl had stayed home from school. On August 19, 2001, the 15-year-old daughter told her mother about the incidents. Ramsundar told the judge that a medical examination of that daughter revealed that she was between 12 to 14 weeks pregnant. Acting Cpl Wayne Doodhai arrested and charged the father. Attorney Russel Pena yesterday made a plea in mitigation on the father’s behalf.  Rampersad will sentence him on Wednesday.
