Family prays for Neisha’s safe return
RELATIVES OF nine-year-old kidnap victim Neisha Seetaram held a religious service at their Tabaquite home on Friday night.A pastor from the district joined the family in prayer for the primary school pupil’s safe return. Seetaram’s father, Ishwarlal, said the family is hopeful that Neisha will return to them as soon as possible. "She has been gone for four days and we are worried about what is happening to her," he told Sunday Newsday. "We are praying that she will come home soon." The worried dad said several villagers have come out in support of the family since Neisha was abducted on Wednesday night by men dressed as soldiers. "I do Hindu prayers, Neisha’s mother is a Catholic, and Neisha was baptized as a Presbyterian. We are glad for all the prayers that are going out for her, as long as she comes home." Neisha’s distraught mother, Majorie Marchan, declined to speak to Sunday Newsday yesterday. The girl was doing her home-work when around 6.15 pm the "soldiers" stormed the house asking for her uncle, Winston Seecharan, proprietor of Kenny Kazar Sawmill in Tabaquite. Seecharan was not at home, but his wife, Pamela, and their 14-month old baby were there along with Neisha. Pamela said the kidnappers pointed a gun at them and taped their mouths with duct tape. The men then ransacked the house and stole $3,000 cash, and $5,000 worth of jewelry and grabbed Neisha as they ran out of the house. Kidnappers have since telephoned the family with a $500,000 ransom demand, police sources said. However, the girl’s father has denied that a ransom call was made.
