Cop, soldier stabbed at Point J’ouvert

An off-duty policeman and soldier were stabbed and a bus driver attacked in separate incidents during the Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations over the weekend. PC Jason Camona, attached to the Organised Crime and Narcotics Unit (OCNU), and Sgt Eric Moore, of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, are both warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. Police reports said around 5.40 am on Saturday, Moore and his friends were participating in the J’ouvert celeberations when a man tried to snatch one of Moore’s friend’s $12,000 gold chain.

As Moore rushed to his friend’s assistance, another reveller stabbed him (Moore) in his rib cage. Later, around 10.15 am PC Camona was also liming with friends when a man burnt him with a cigarette. An argument ensued but the man eventually walked away. He returned shortly after with a knife and stabbed Camona in the left side of his neck. In another incident, around 3 am, bus driver, Horace Thomas, 49, of La Horquetta was transporting revellers from the Point Fortin celebrations to San Fernando.

However, on reaching La Brea, Thomas stopped to assist another driver whose bus had stalled.  Thomas reportedly was involved in a heated argument with two passengers from the other bus.  One of the passengers subsequently broke a bottle on Thomas’ head. The passenger also threw a stone at the windscreen of Thomas’ bus,  shattering it. No arrests have been made in these incidents. Point Fortin and La Brea police are continuing investigations.
