Police seize $1M in compressed ‘ganja’


A party of police officers yesterday swooped down on a house on Mucurapo Road, St James, and seized a quantity of parcels containing more than 150 kilogrammes in compressed marijuana, valued $1 million.


The cops also seized a quantity of literature on the cultivation of marijuana, seedlings, fertilisers, cocaine, an army camouflage jacket, firearms, laser-sight, speed-loader, and other firearm related accessories, in yesterday’s raid.


Two men escaped from the scene.


According to reports, after two weeks of surveillance, a party of officers from the Western Division Criminal Investigation Department, using intelligence information gathered from the Western Division Intelligence Unit and the Special Anti-Crime Unit (SAUTT), converged on the house and found the items. The two men who were securing the place escaped.


The exercise, which was held between 1 pm and 4 pm, was coordinated by Senior Supt Glen Roach, and included Insp Anthony Lezama, Sgt Henry Dan, members of the Intelligence Unit and SAUTT.
