Businessman’s son kidnapped


TACARIGUA businessman, owner of Suntan Garment factory, Ramesh Maharaj believes the kidnapping of his son Narendra Maharaj yesterday morning was a mistake and is prepared to forgive the kidnappers, no questions asked once they free him.


"I have no money of my own, only assets. To get money I would have to take a loan. We have never done anyone anything. I believe this was a mistake and I am prepared to forgive the kidnappers, once they release my son."


According to reports, around 4.40 am yesterday after attending a party at the Base Club, Chaguaramas, Narendra, of 103 Country Road, Trincity had just pulled into Market Street, St Joseph with his green Mercedes Benz to drop off a friend when his car was blocked by two cars with armed men dressed in police-type uniforms. The men shouted "police" and ordered Narendra and his friends out of the car.


Narendra, who recently returned from Pakistan and England where he was exploring his university prospects demanded to see some identification, when the men claimed "police do not need to show identification," a struggle ensued between Narendra, his friend in the front passenger seat and two of the men.


Eventually the front passenger was overpowered and Narendra was dragged into the car which sped away. The getaway car was later found burnt in Barataria.


Up to press time there was no ransom demand or communication from the abductors.
