South African energy expert visits Petrotrin
NOT only the South African cricketers are here, but a seven-member delegation of energy experts arrived in Trinidad recently. The topic was oil and gas. Host to the delegation led by South Africa’s deputy Minis-ter of Minerals and Energy, Lulama Xing-wana, was State-owned Petrotrin. The delegation arrived on May 5. On their arrival, the delegation visited Petrotrin’s Pointe-a-Pierre headquarters. Discussions with company chairman Mal-colm Jones and an executive team from Petrotrin, centred on a memorandum of understanding between Pet-rotrin and the South African national oil company, PetroSA. Concerning the visit, Jones told Xingwana and her delegation, "We hope your visit will be fruitful and we would be able to better understand what your interests are so we could foster a better relationship between your country and Petrotrin." The Petrotrin team which met the South African delegation at the airport was: Victor Mitchell (general manager — Land, North and East Coast), Kenneth Allum (general manager — Mark-eting and Trading), and Arnold Corneal (manager corporate communications). The delegation then met with Jones and a delegation of Petro-trin’s Leadership Team. Xingwana replied that huge opportunities lie for PetroSA and Petrotrin, especially in the area of what she described as capacity building. She said training and sharing of expertise in technology were also important.
