ACP Allard probes cops in House

ACTING Deputy Commissioner of Police, Oswyn Allard, has launched an investigation into the actions of the police officers assigned to the House of Representatives. On Friday the officers and Marshall of the House Gilbert Hamilton failed to eject Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma from the House after being so instructed by House Speaker Barry Sinanan. Leader of the House, Ken Valley, expressed his dismay to Newsday that the Speaker’s orders were not carried out, although the Opposition has said this might have been an assault or a breach of the privilege of an MP to be unmolested in the precincts of Parliament.

Reports are that after the early adjournment of the House, Allard led a group of top brass to meet the officers who were on duty in the House. But yesterday Allard was playing his cards close to his chest, talking to Sunday Newsday. He simply said: “It is a matter of internal investigation. The Commissioner of Police has requested a report on the incident by 12 noon on Monday. I won’t be able to comment until I have completed my report and reported to the Commissioner.”
